I now understand what happened yesterday... after we went live (/32) without SPOOL
someone tried to print from the TXT archive to a dot-matrix printer but was confronted with (and scared off by) options like:
delete after printing
run continuously
what they were trying to find was a check box for:
only print the selected files
-or-
set file status to "PRINTED" (with an "ALL" option if desired)
followed by a print all unprinted files.
I have an inkling about why one would want "run continuously" or "delete after printing" but just don't seem to find any interest in our shop.
maybe I can set up and configure a separate TXT archive for "printing to line printers" where we would have to copy a file to this archive and then we can "print all" and "ignore printed documents"
it just seems to be a long work around where all I/we need is the occasional ability to print one file to a dot-matrix printer
on a brighter note... Comet/32 on a much faster (and brand new) server flies...... big time!
Thanx again to all for your help
