The object file type (16 or 32) is not indicated in the QDIR. It's in the object file header (the first several bytes of the object file). It really sounds like the object file is getting corrupted. If the header is messed up it could think it's the wrong type of file. You're going to have to narrow down the sequence of events that causes this. Is it N that's getting corrupted? Is it RUN, or is it returned to via an EXIT? Does it always happen? etc, etc, etc... :-)
