Jim:

hope you can spot something in this short code fragment....

I tried to do the iterating across the length of the field.... still not sure what the -1 (null field) is, but stumbled across the following when I tried to build an iterative DECHEX (using MOVE statements)

1) if I display the results of the CHR first, I'll see the number and then the CHR output, but no DECHEX
2) if I display the DECHEX output first, I'll only see the number, neither CHR, nor DECHEX

btw... originally, this was copied from elsewhere... since I knew ASC.VALUE wasn't -1, I commented out the SELECT

can't figure out what I'm doing to step on the output of DECHEX... furthermore, what's the effect on MSGBOX? thought there was some kind of truncation, but putting "@0a0d@" after each field didn't help at all.... :(

this was compiled under Comet16 and tested under Comet16 and Comet32

never remember having a problem with DECHEX, although I can't remember if I've ever used it recently

running 469 and just updated to latest versions of REL and UTL

Thanx

Bob "A"
