in the production program the breakout criteria is:
IF STRIP(NEXT.IN.CHAIN$) EQ "" then BREAK
did you see the attached .doc document? that shows the two results... /32 gets stuck in a loop because the next in chain returned is the one just entered.... /16 doesn't get stuck because it properly returns the next in chain for a non-existant file when entered into FSTAT because the DIRectory is specified (DIR="SYS")
