thanx... but I'm an old (sometimes very old) former assembler programmer... zero offset was one of the first things I thought of
as to the strange goings on with the CometEx, I've attached a screen shot of the "grayed out" screen. Since there's no progress screen, I can't tell if this is doing what I want or not.
I finally got the file re-build of ExtKeyed file to ExtKeyed file.... took about 7 hours for 49 Million Records.... the File check was much faster, and found the two records with bad keys in about 35 minutes. My next try is to just re-build all the records from the first bad one to the last bad one into a work file and then merge then into the original file. I think that I'll have to somehow delete the records with bad keys, but just not sure how to do that... in 49 Million Records, I've probably got to go in using the key tree.... but since it's Extended Key, it may check integrity again when the I/O is done and then fail once again (9A).
I'll keep you in the loop.

P.S. forgot to say that the rebuild of 7 hours was on my TEST system overnight.... so there was NOTHING ELSE running....
