One thought I had was that this is like the bug:

If A EQ 1 AND_

which always fails, whereas

If A EQ 1 AND _

never fails because there's a space between the AND and the Continuation Character....

could be something like this... or maybe that there is some wierd thing going on with the hex constant in the SET

dunno....
