actually this one is "plain vanilla" keyed file although..... I changed it to extended yesterday and got the same result.... so I then changed it back because I didn't want to be changing the problem too much.
It's too facile a thought, but I figured that there was one place somewhere that should have been 8000 bytes and was instead picked up as 800 ... and I figured that only a person who believes in 30 character variable names would push the envelope this way..... however, I still think somebody else would have touched the tripwire of 800 before, were this the case.
Robert Laurin suggested that the text file was surely only written once.. whereas the keyed file could have been re-written.... which is a good point.
