BB:
my guess is the following....
i've got a file that ends in 580
I've got a new field thats 30 characters long
I put the new field at the end
but... maybe I notice that most of them are only 20 bytes long
so... rather than set it up right (a record length as something at least 610 bytes long) I leave everything alone but turn off the buffer overflow E44
As long as the internal buffer pools expand when I change the size of the file... I guess there's no reason to re-compile and no reason not to expand the file to 610 or whatever else I want it. If what you're saying is that all I have to do to get out of the E44 is expand the file, then there's no reason to shutoff the E44 since the recovery is easy.
not sure what used to be able to be done easily and what wasn't.. I just know that I'd like to know
BTW... only way I know of to change this is to change the .INI and re-SYSGEN Is there a run-time option that can be SET when we bring up COMET?
Thanx
