I wrote a few IB programs using WinSock from/to Comet, but not in VisualBasic.

I found out that in 2001 we used the Universal Gateway to talk to a Windows application. We used the sample FaxDriver to write an application that took control of Acrobat Reader using the DDE SDK from Adobe.

That might be much easier.
