It sounds like maybe you were lacking one of the Microsoft .dlls newly required by the .336 release. It would have been installed if you had run Comet2004Workstation336.exe. Did you do this or did you simply copy the Comet exectuables over? .337 is now available. Run its workstation install and see if you have any better luck.
