as to putting stamps upside-down....
the US Postal Service created a stamp in 1989 to observe the 200th anniversary of the French Revolution/French Republic
alas... they got the colours wrong... should be (L->R) Bleu/Blanc/Rouge (Blue White Red) but was Red/White/Blue
so all those sending to France inverted the stamp... at least at a distance it looked right
