One of my clients uses DocManager (aka the New Spooler) for XML print jobs. The name of the job includes a user defined JobID and a small description.
This morning, five of the eight jobs created in a single batch were missing in action...
After checking, I saw that the actual file names in the spooler directory were shorter than what DocMgr claimed. All were of 0 bytes.
I the noticed that the job names in DocMgr of the missing jobs included either a column ':' or a slash '/'.
Checking the DocMgr jobs from the previous day, I saw that earlier jobs with the same name had the invalid characters replaced with an underscore '_'. Upon verification I found that the invalid characters were setup a long time ago and all DocMgr print jobs had the invlid characters properly replaced with the underscore.
Except for today's jobs...
The only difference, I was told, is that it was run from a different workstation.
This has been working for a long time, the four stations in that department were replaced a couple of weeks back. Everything had been working fine.
I check the Comet.log on both machines, both are running Comet 2013 version 613.474. Their configurations are nearly identical.
The log reported no error from COSP even if the rename/copy failed somehow. I can see the eight COSP in the log within the 3 minutes it took to create the jobs (between 08:43 and 08:46). See attached log for Ops14.
I compared with the Comet.log of the other computer from yesterday, I can see the COSP for the same eight print jobs at 09:01 and the DocMgr name was proper. See attached log for Ops13.
So, why were the invalid characters not changed?
I was able to recover the documents from the TEMP folder on the user's computer and copy them to the DocMgr folder and edit the names in the DocMgr spool queue file. I also changed the default description as to NOT used ':'and '/' anymore.
This happen on two identical, freshly formatted (1 month ago) Dell Optiplex 855 running Windows XP Pro SP3 on a Windows 2003 Domain. Comet 2013.464.
