no, actually it converts the tabs to whatever I've set up the length of a tab is... so it's a fixed number of spaces, no like an old typewriter (remember them?) where the tabs can be set anywhere.
I've found out that the Python language brings this up to a whole level of tab importance... apparently the compilers decide how to parse If/Then/Else on the basis of the tabbing/indenting, and _NOT_ on the actual key words. Consequently, there are editors that really care about this... like "Sublime" (I like the name :)
