The matrix of possible combinations of Windows versions and Comet versions is very large. After receiving some support calls about reliability problems with particular combinations we decided it was in the best interest of our customers to certify only certain configurations. At that time, we put in safety logic to prevent combinations which we had not verified. If you are running any combination other than those listed as approved in the "System Requirements" chart, you are running an unsupported configuration. The versions of Comet you mention apparently were built before this protective mechanism was put into place.
