How do I fix the "Application Configuration" for CometEX?

loaded the Latest & Greatest (v480) last Friday after COB.... everything seemed OK then

today... found out the hard way the CometEx has an "Application Configuration Problem"

had this same problem about a year ago.... re-booted and seemed to right itself (never did find out why)

this time... I've re-installed on my TEST system and still don't have CometEX. Can't touch the PROD system until COB tonight.

what I can see:

TEST system CometEX.exe along with the 48 other files from v480 (775 KB)
also have CometEX.OBJ of 3 KB.... not sure what this is)
PROD System CometEX.exe of 775 KB (no CometEX.OBJ here)

I only re-installed because when I clicked on CometEX.exe I got a message about the Application Configuration and a suggested fix by re-installing.

Last time (year ago) it was suggested to check $(COMET) variable. Where to I find that setting? since all the other COMET functions work just fine for the past 3 hours (billing, inventory, etc.. etc..) I figure that COMET's pointing to the right places, but did find the suggestion of checking $(COMET).

It just seems that CometEX is the only thing I can identify as not-working.
