I'm having a tough time following the log you pasted together. It looks like it did work at one point when running Comet.exe. It's definitely Comet.exe that's reporting the error. The difference is that CosW.exe doesn't try to copy the executables from the Comet folder to the user's temp folder. So, as you suggested, it's either a problem with the user's temp folder or maybe permissions on the shortcut. Have you checked the properties of it? As Grant suggested, maybe creating a new shortcut is a good thing to try. Call me if you want to discuss this further.
