I've got a second end-user with the identical problem outlined below in Comet Startup problem thread. Connected up to that user, turned Windows Defender off and all is good again running Comet. I imagine this is more often an issue with newly installed PCs as they probably have WD starting up by default. No IT person that I've ever worked with uses Windows Defender, far better products available that actually work.
