Apparently, the left-click goes through the EVENTSUB routine and returns a value of 9 in the STS(0) function (or does not prelace it). If I right-click it skips the EVENTSUB routine and changes the STS(0) value to 4. So, using the left-click goes through the event handler but does NOT change the STS(0) value but return whatever value was last used.
