Well, it looks like this is a design limitation from when the file size limit for Windows was 4.2gb. The variable used to store the value in the file server is a DWORD so it's maximum value is 4.2. Plus, there are only 4 hex bytes reserved in the FSTAT info for the data file size, so, again the limit is 4.2.
