My company got hit with a similar virus 3 years ago. It infected one of our user's PC's and then started to lock up all of the files associated with any Microsoft office product: XLS, DOC, etc. It did not infect any comet files (thankfully). After talking to the police, they said said it was easier to pay up. It cost us $300.00 to get it unlocked. We notified the FBI using their online form, and I make sure that all PC's and Servers are running an up to date anti-virus program.
BTW: Just as a (Humoresque)side note: The IRS says you can deduct the ransom as a business expense. (Our auditors got a kick out of us creating a G.L. number for extortion.)
Each file can be a maximum of 1MB in length Uploaded files will be purged from the server on a regular basis.
