Problem when VPN is dropped.

I have a problem with a user that is on the road...He logs on to the network using a VPN and runs Comet using /PN=2016EN. Sometimes the VPN may get dropped due to problems in the line/WiFi he is using. He cannot reconnect to Comet due to his user name still being used, and the new VPN has dynamically given him a new IP number. Is there a way to force/kill the old node name in the security service?
