Corruption in the control file can make the DocMgr program go weird. It's the ExtKey, 588, 10 file in the SPL (usually) directory. It can be mainted with CometEx.

Otherwise you can write or mooch a program that reads the PDF's, via DOS, and rebuilds the control file.
