Virtual Comet

One of my customers is looking at a private cloud upgrade to their IT infrastructure. This has been brought on by a 500+ page pamphlet from the DoD (Dept. of Defense).

Currently, they have their Main and Comet servers at HQ and three additional remote servers. Two PC's at HQ share the CAW hosting workload.

The new configuration is under discussion and I'd like to make sure any Comet issues get handled properly. The new server configuration might look like this.

Huge server at HQ running "core" server and hosting virtual servers and virtual PC's for remote users. SAN storage and a hot failover configuration. The existing remote servers would be shut down and the remote users would do some kind of thin client connection to HQ.

Comet would run as a separate virtual server on the big box. I'd like to move the CAW hosting there and eliminate the PC's that do that work currently.

The comet users at HQ would continue to use full Comet and the remote users would continue to use CAW.

1) I think the switch to a Comet Virtual Dongle would be in order.

2) How seamless is the failover?

3) Best ways to set up the Comet Server and storage so the virtual server is actually faster than a stand alone server.

Appreciate any advice and warnings.
