There might be a printer setting that gives it permission to use Trays freely if paper definition is same. I don't remember what it is called. Weird that it behaves differently based on OS.

If you have the option, are using the PCL or PostScript drivers? I found that in many cases the PS drivers actually responds faster and the printing is done faster.

I wrote a test program (many years ago) for testing this kind of issues (back when we had Win 95 vs Win XP). It did a detailed trace of everything happening. I remember that the order the commands are sent actually affected printing (paper selection, orientation, plex....).

I am leaving (now) for the long weekend. Back Tuesday.
