Testing if TRACE is on?

I've got a need to do mass testing..

is there anyway to test if TRACE is on?

I'm doing things like this:
.ifdef Trace.Record.Count
Trace ON
Trace Print Record.Count
Trace off
.endif

of course, this turns trace off after this point
I don't want to turn TRACE ON/off if it's ON already
can I test for this
