determining WHICH caused E46 on CSV file

I used to manually parse CSV files... all columns were alphabetic, and I manually did a NUM operation

Now I'm using a read of the CSV file and letting COMET parse the Alpha/Numeric fields

when an E46 is returned is there any way to determine WHICH column... seems like I've gotta invoke the "way back" machine... and go back to the manual parsing... UGH!
