Yes, theoretically the transition would be faster with a virtual dongle. You eliminate the shipping time required for a physical dongle. The virtual dongle does require an installation process to register the dongle to the new server. Most of the time all goes well and this takes only a couple of minutes. Below is a link to the installation instructions for a virtual dongle.
