problems with restoring type "S" (Sequential) files

in a process, I've got a DOS copy of backups: (TXT, Keyed, Sequential)
after about 7 years of this finally had to restore one of the SEQ files

created an SEQ in a work folder with the "right" name
overlaid it with the backup file
tried to look at it with COMET utilities
couldn't see anything

couldn't seem to be able to use a Comet copy utility to rebuild the Seq, since it seemed to require either:
keyed
text
input file

since it was a file of invoices, format (B#####-00) i was able to put a before the B and recreate the SEQ using text>Seq

other than having to write a program using GetFile and then manually parsing it to Seq "records", is there any easy Comet way to do this....

I'm surely not overlooking the possibility that I screwed up the download/DOS copy

any ideas are gratefully appreciated.

thanx
