With Jim's assistance we have successfully implemented a network version of STUNNEL that works with Comet applications. We are currently running credit card transactions that are TLS1.2 compliant. Although Jim is probably better versed in the nuts and bolts I can give you a simplified version of what we did if you ever have the need.
