Depends on if you're using old Reporter and #FILES. The use of *MAINT suggests that. #FILES is good to 999 characters.

Two ways to enlarge file.

1) Rename old file and use COPY to create new, larger file. The extra space is filled with blanks. Numeric fields are OK with initial blanks.

2) Rename old file, create new file, run a conversion program that fills the new fields appropriately.
