Yves, try configuring the printer as a default printer:

Printer = LPD,W ,N,,#,,; Default Printer (Cooked)

In Windows, set the new laser printer as your default printer. In Comet, click File/Print Setup, and make sure your Printer is set to (Default). Then try printing plain text to LPD and see what happens.
