is it possible to test if TRACE is ON/OFF?

is there anyway to test TRACE status (ON/OFF)

seem to have different parts of program turning TRACE ON/OFF and so it's not ON when I need it

have a dim memory of once having a problem when it set
TRACE ON
and it was already
TRACE ON

could probably try to test if the one variable TRACE.ALL$ is TRUE inside every time I try to turn it ON/OFF... but was looking for something simpler.

nested ".ifdef"/".ifndef" statements get a little hard to tame.. IMHO
