What is the limit for Input/Output for the TCP Gateway ?

Mr Google says that by default an IMAP server uses a 4k (4096) buffer. What I fetch comes in at 1K (1024).

So when I pull emails from the IMAP server, I get it in very small chunks and it isn't as efficient as it should be.

Is there a way to tell TCP how big a buffer I want ? What's the maximum ?
