Hi Carl. It's clear that the old messaging mechanism is inadequate for today's configurations. The process of delivering a message to a user must be based upon some sort of user identifier which we do not have. We do have a blind password but it doesn't provide nearly enough security and they're often shared among users. There is a way to uniquely identify a physical computer by retrieving the session identifier (see GetSessionID in the IB docs). Once you have the ID of a session you can store the associated terminal name (TXX) and use it to send a message to the user associated with the session id. In addition, you'd need to develop a background program to exchange messages with other workstations. An improved system would require each user to "log in" to Comet with a user id and password thus ensuring the identity of a user at ANY workstation. All in all it's not a simple task but someone with some extra time on their hands might want to give it a try. I'd be glad to provide any assistance or moral support to such a person (hint, hint).
