Finally developed a BAT file that would work on all users. Put the BAT on PSR_COM2 and started testing on PC's in Accounting. Put a shortcut on the user's desktop to the BAT. User starts Comet, then runs the BAT. Three PC's fixed. Good work-a-round.
On PC #4, I got another "ODD" error. Never seen this before. NV.png. Tried PC #5 and got the same error message. So, three PC's working OK and two are suddenly broken.
I started playing on PC #5. Current IT guy suggested running Comet.exe directly from the folders on the Comet server. I tried the CSYS folder. It's been the folder we've been using for about 20 years. No good. I then tried the hidden Comet folder on the Comet server. Bingo, no NTDVM error and Comet did a successful copy of the COSWGLOB.INI file. WTF!!!
Old shortcut was to \\PSR_COM2\CSYS (EXE's and CFG's). I deleted the old shortcut and created a new one using \\PSR_COM2\COMET$. Worked for PC #4 too. This morning, we've been going around to all the Comet users doing the shortcut fix. All working OK.
History: John (original IT guy) wanted to hide Comet from Explorer when we moved Comet to a full Windows Server (2000 or 2003), so we put Comet under D$ on PSR_COM2. To allow Users to run Comet, we created the public CSYS folder. Like I said, it's worked for 20 years. Many years later another hidden share was added, COMET$. This aided the transfer in and out of data files from folders on the other customer servers (old DOS routines and later CopyFile).
Never thought of replacing the CSYS as it wasn't broken.
No idea why this all went south starting on Monday.
