Problem with "?" printers

A problem was recently discovered in the COSP printer driver that could cause "?" printers to always return a device inoperative (E30) error to Comet instead of displaying the Windows printer selection dialog. This problem is due to a feature in COSP that attempts to display the last "?" printer selected. If the last printer selected is not valid (maybe it was removed from the system) then the dialog will fail. We are currently working on a solution to this problem. In the mean time, for those of you who have been pulling your hair out trying to figure out what's going on, below you will find a fix.

Note: Only qualified persons should attempt to apply this fix. Incorrectly modifying the system registry can cause damage to Windows or other installed software. If you're unsure of the procedure outlined below or just need help, contact me (Brian) directly and I'll walk you through it.

1. From the Windows Start menu choose the "Run..." option.
2. Type "RegEdit" and press enter.
3. Open the following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Signature Systems\Comet Print Manager\Settings

4. Select and delete the entry "Last User Printer".
5. Close the program and your done.

Thanks to Bruce and Greg at Locis for their assistance in tracking down this problem.

Brian
