We welcome your thoughts and comments about the look and functionality of the utilities. Please try them. Notice that the "double click" action has not been defined yet. We want to do that.
I find that I keep the Comet Explorer open even though I am not running Comet. It is very handy.
The most exciting new feature in my mind is the ability to create files with longer keys. As processing speed and disk capacity increase, we will continue to make changes in the file system to make it more convenient to write more robust programs. Look for more file system features in the future.
If you have a current subscription, you can run Comet 2005 today. Just download it and run it. You will notice that there is a date (currently November first) when this build of comet 2005 will no longer function. Before that date, we will release another build with an extended "drop dead" date. This is to protect us against any bugs in the current version lasting beyond our safety margin. Once you re-subscribe, this date limitation will be removed.
Most new features within Comet will only work on directories handled by CFAM. New files (records longer than 1024 bytes and/or keys longer than 64 bytes) can only be processed by CFAM.
I wrote the old type N file sharing method back in the late 80's using DOS calls to synchronize file access among multiple computers. It no longer works very well due to limitations of the windows file system. Through the years we have tried our best to make it as easy and inexpensive to switch to the new centralized file system (cometserve32). Please, please, make this change. I promise you will be glad you did.
Again, please try the new features. During this development period between now and March, we intend to make changes and more than welcome your thoughts and ideas.
