Somehow I am guessing that you are assuming that the user that did not shut down are actually in QMONITOR.
By experience, I can tell you that users that don't shut down are sloppier than that and actually leave applications running.
So the MESSAGESUB / INTERRUPT wouldn't really work unlass all programs had a MESSAGESUB.
The Backup solution would simply be to get the OPEN FILES AGENT from VERITAS (I'm not sure how they call that option, but I do know that they don't have one for the Novell server - which is why we are still using ArcServe)
