I just can't seem to reproduce this problem. I even made my qstartx program look as much like the bit you sent - doing some file I/O before the ACTIVATE, etc. When I run it, I error out to QENDITOR with E61 as expected, because the program to activate doesn't exist. No GPF. I guess you'll have to send the entire QSTARTX source, your Comet.ini file, and Startup Details for me to pursue this further.
