I don't know if this relevant to this discussion, but for years I have thought it would be handy to have 3 types of variables, local, common & another lot. Many of us pass around vast amounts of information in common which is set at the initial menu and never changes, thus clear common only gets used once. It would be handy to have a lower level of common that can pass data around sub-menus and can be cleared without wiping out all your system parameters.
Qusetion: why do we pass so much stuff around in common ?, is it a throw back to Qantel and incredibly slow open and close file routines ?, Why dont we just stick it all in a file and read it in every program ?
