Yes, the # buffer is destroyed with I/0. All you have to do is read it as the very first thing your entered program does. Then you should be ok. MESSAGE$ can be used. Its limitation is that it is only 32 bytes. And, remember that when you do an ENTER, all of your data is passed to the subprogram - LOCALs and COMMON. So, if it makes sense for your subprogram to have exactly the same layout, you can do it that way.
