I think I'd write a program to do it. Use FSTAT to identify the ones with rec size 88 and create the new files in "TMP", then copy back. Since TMP is automatically cleared when you restart Comet (assuming you nave it setup as $(CATEMP)), you don't need to worry about cleaning it up.
Keep in mind that the Comet 2005 Reporter uses text files for its specification files, but a conversion program is supplied. Isn't evolution wonderful? :-)
