If the .d00 is created from the #FILES entry, editmasks are transfered in to the .d00. Open the .d00 in a text editor and you can see them. They are used by the Comet 2005 Reporter, but not by ViewMgr. I suspect that might be because Excel wants a leading minus sign. I will have to investigate further. If you want to eliminate them now, use a text editor to delete the line that starts "Mask=" under the field's description.
