Comet as a service has been coded and is being tested in-house right now. It will be the first feature released of comet 2006. There will be several other important features released when ready as discussed in Las Vegas. Expect the first comet 2006 release in a week or two.
Comet as a service will start comet when the computer restarts. A user does not have to be logged in for this to happen. This is especially good for CometAnywhere and XAP. It is also good for system security since no one is logged into the machine, other apps cannot be started without an appropriate password.
You can cause windows machines to log in automatically (and start comet automatically), but this process requires that an active login be in place all the time that comet is running.
