I use Automate to manage Comet on the anywhere machine. It starts comet up after the backup is complete and sends the keystrokes to take it down before backup starts.
Just creating Comet as a service will not solve the problem of unloading the service so the server is inactive for backup, you still need a shutdown method. Automate and Windows scheduler both can manage service start and stop.
