I gave up and changed the program to use the system variables TRUE and FALSE - as I should have done before.
I got here, looking at the value of these SET constants, because my program did not seem to be working as expected. So I am reasonably confident that YES did not compare properly to 1.
I hope that TRUE and FALSE work better. It is simpler and I'm kicking myself because I did not know, remember, that these constants were in the language.
