Yes, there is a way to talk to a remote host using tcp/ip. It is called the winsock gateway. You must know about the protocol you are using to talk to the host, and there are many.

A good place to begin to learn about this is the winsock faq. I have included a link to it below.

Doing a credit card application is even more daunting in that most of that communication is done via some sort of encrypted secure protocol such as ssl.

Signature systems has an add-on product to our xap product called sslRelay. It has been sold separately for several years, and implements an ssl server.

The world of winsock is facinating, but can also be frustrating. Please let me know how I can help further.
