We have the issue with the Security server as well, sometimes when we shut down Comet Services (D/B and Security since they run as the same service), the security server service will not load again.
The icon shows in the tray but when you mouse over it, it disappears.
The only work around we ultimately found was to put the security server on a separate machine from the database server. We never stop the security server and stop the database server for backup.
Are you using a parallel or USB dongle? We still have a parallel dongle, we think that code introduced for the USB dongle is somehow the culprit.
