After much investigation & testing here and at our user's site we have come to some conclusions involving pdfFactory used for printing
forms. We make use of pdfFactory for our Document-Imaging system. Our forms program performs two passes; the first pass prints the hard copy, the second pass opens up the pdfFactory printer and performs a second pass where we make use of the ( Document=... ) mnemonic to generate an archived document available to our D/I system. Our problem was that pdfFactory was issuing an error dialog
stating that it could not perform the required function because the
file was open. This error appears to only occur on older PC's - at
our end-user the PC was not only somewhat old but it was also a Celeron processor. When the same application was run on a newer PC the error did not occur. So, to summarize, use of pdfFactory printer
for archiving forms works nicely when you make sure of these two items: 1) After each form is generated from the printer close, use a
PAUSE statement ( I PAUSE(36) or two seconds ). Without a PAUSE statement I was seeing buffering errors. 2) Run the application on
current hardware. Tom.
