Dear Frustrated:

When configured using the $(CATEMP) alias, the TMP folder is truly temporary. Each time Comet is started it is emptied and initialized with a new QDIR. Many of the new utilities will use this directory for creation of temporary work files. For Comet Anywhere hosts it also contains a file called CAUPDVSN.TXT which indicates the version of Comet on the host. This is used to control the automatic update process for the clients.

In your Comet.ini you should include a line such as the following to include this dir in your configuration:

nn = C ,$(CATEMP);

The pathname associated with $(CATEMP) is defined at the workstation. Click on "Edit" then "Directory Aliases" on the menu at the top of the Comet window to set the path.

Beginning in REL 3.01, if you are using the standard security QMONITOR it will attempt to automatically include TMP and COS in your accessed dabs if:
1) the password record did not include them
2) they are included in your configuration
3) there are remaining unused dabs available.
